Siding

At NOVA Roofing & Siding, we offer many different siding options for you to choose form.  We carry all the major brands and styles.  We will closely work with you to determine what the best options for your home are.  Listed below are descriptions of the most commonly used types of siding:

Vinyl siding is made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC).  It is the most common type of siding used today.  Vinyl is one of the least expensive siding options available.  It is very durable, although lower grade vinyl can crack from high impact hits.  Vinyl is also popular because it will never rot or decay, such as wood siding is prone to do.  One of the biggest appeals of vinyl is that there is very little maintenance required.  It also comes in a wide range of colors.  There are 3 standard styles of vinyl siding: beaded, dutch lap, and straight lap.  There are also styles available that mimic shake and shingle siding.

Metal siding comes in two common forms, aluminum and steel.  Metal siding is durable and fireproof.  Metal siding is also very low maintenance.  Another appeal is the option of having a seamless style.

  • Aluminum siding is however vulnerable to dents from impacts such as hail.  If you live in Loudoun County, Herndon/Reston, Chantilly, Fairfax or the Woodbridge areas and have aluminum siding, you may have hail damage.  Contact us now to schedule a free siding inspection; you may meet the requirements for insurance paid siding replacement.

Wood siding is most commonly made from cedar or redwood.  Wood siding is very popular for its beauty.  It has a natural look and can be painted to match any desired color, unlike vinyl or most metal siding.  Wood siding comes in many different styles and designs.

  • Wood siding requires much more maintenance than any other form of siding because it is susceptible to rot and decay.  It has to be frequently painted or stained.  Wood siding is also flammable, but can be treated with fire-retardant.  Typically wood siding is more expensive than vinyl and metal siding.

Fiber cement siding is composed of wood fiber, cement, sand and other various additives.  The most popular maker of fiber cement siding is HardiePalnk®.  Fiber cement is one of the most durable and longest lasting siding options that are available. It is impact resistant, will not rot or decay, and is fireproof.  Fiber cement can come either painted or primed.  There are many different styles available in fiber cement siding.

  • Fiber cement siding is a difficult product to work with due to its weight and production of dust when cut.  This, plus all of its benefits, makes it the most expensive siding option.
